God Don't Make No Junk!
"True Story . . . "
“God don’t make no junk!”
I live in one deep south state and grew up in another. I’ve heard that saying in these parts, I’ve heard it from preachers, and I’ve heard it from comedians. Although the latter was poking some fun at the southern expression, I still concur.
Look at Abraham. He was an old dude when God called him, he LAUGHED at the Almighty for promising a son, and he flippin’ LIED about his wife being his SISTER! And that last one was not only once, but TWICE. Srsly, Abraham?
Yeah, see, didn’t choose to carry out His plan through Abraham because he was special, talented, or even righteous. In fact, God didn’t choose anyone in the Bible for those reasons; He also doesn’t choose anyone today for those reasons. God chooses whom He will because He can. And wants to...
But here’s the thing. Abraham LISTENED to God. He balked, he fought, and he lied, but at the end of the day, He trusted the Almighty. He trusted him so much that he walked his own son directly to an altar as a sacrifice and the Almighty honoured that commitment when he said (my translation of course), "Dude. Put down the knife. Look in the bushes. That ram will be just fine." Abraham obeyed God's voice. He obeyed God and it was counted as righteous.
Even though there are so many stories of God using idiots (lol *points finger at self*), the ones I am mentioning here are the aforementioned Abraham and also the other is the guy who also laughed at the Almighty (this time about saving the planet’s life) but went ahead and trusted. Yep, Noah. Noah found faith in the eyes of the Lord. For in looking at personal character it helps us to remember that God will provide and that He keeps His promises. I'll bet you already know more Biblical history of that kind...
Oooo! The Scripture Scout has now offered more centers that have been posted for a ridiculously cheap download on TeachersPayTeachers if you would like some great Sunday school activities for Abraham or Noah.
I am excited about having a resource for all the centers in The Scripture Scout’s Sleuth for the Truth. Check out our store here or more specifically to this post, the Abraham activity here. And Noah is also included in an activity called THE PROMISES OF GOD.
No, these aren’t perfect people, and both Abraham and Noah would probably have agreed. Remind your kids: It’s GOD who makes people special, GOD who bestows talents, and GOD alone who can transform sinners into righteous believers and make someone of quality character. Just like Abraham. Just like Noah. Just like me. And just like YOU.
Because "God don’t make no junk!"
